Checkered White
San Antonio, NM - Bosque del Apache NWR - The Checkered White or Southern Cabbage Butterfly [Pontia Protodice], is a common North American butterfly in the family Pieridae. The upper sides of the Females wings are white and marked with black and gray, more on the female than on the male. The underside of the hindwings is marked with extensive yellow-brown veins. The wingspan is 1.25–1.75 inches (3.2–4.4 cm). [Wiki] - We will be heading to our first destination today which a little spot on the map called Rodeo, NM which is near Chiricahua National Monument and Whitmire Canyon Wilderness Study Area - Commenting may be spotty the next couple of days...

on April 13, 2019Nice view of this Cabbage Butterfly, as we knew it growing up. I know Rodeo, believe it or not--it is near Portal, at the mouth of the canyon heading up into the Chiricahua mountains where I go birding. Love that area!
