Plains Indian Tipi
Cheyenne, OK - Washita Battlefield National Historic Site - The Plains Indian Tipi. The tipi [also spelled tepee, teepee, tepe] of the Plains Indians is a fine dwelling, where poles are available and a permanent camp is in order. It is a roomy structure in which a fire may be built, and is comfortable in extremes of heat or cold. - A tipi is a cone-shaped tent, traditionally made of animal skins upon wooden poles. Modern tipis usually have a canvas covering. A tipi is distinguished from other conical tents by the smoke flaps at the top of the structure. [Wiki]
