Miner's Cabin
Custer, ID - Miner's Cabin - Miners lived a very simple life with few added comforts. Some made lanterns from lard cans, wire and candles, that they used as they traveled to and from work. A miner’s day began early and ended late. Former Custer residents remember seeing a long trail of light, illuminating the darkness, as miners traveled between town and the mines on top of the mountain. A typical lunch consisted of a slice of bread spread with lard or cheese, maybe a hardboiled egg or a piece of cooked meat and for dessert an apple, slice of pie or a piece of cake. Life changed as miners married and more women came to Custer.
