Edgecomb, ME - Edgecomb State Park - Fort Edgecomb, built in 1808–1809, is a two-story octagonal wooden blockhouse with restored fortifications located on Davis Island in the town of Edgecomb, Lincoln County, Maine, United States. It is the centerpiece of the Fort Edgecomb State Historic Site. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969, with its boundaries increased to create a historic district in 1991. [Wiki] - Located on Davis Island, the Fort traces its origins to the early 19th century. Interpretive panels explain how hostilities in Europe led to construction of forts on the coast of Maine. The centerpiece of the fort is the Blockhouse and it represents America's best-preserved blockhouse of the period. It sits on the highest point overlooking the Sheepscot River.
